Meet our first Maker… Izzy Kertland

A chance and random moment when scrolling through instagram - I was met with beautiful black and white ceramics, triggering a response of familiarity - they epitomised the pebbles so often seen on our shores here in Cornwall. I looked further and found possibly just who we needed to launch as our first maker, someone making beautiful things and though living elsewhere in the UK, felt inspiration during her stay in our home county - I had to get in touch! Some comms later, Izzy created for Lars & Margo, a beautiful collection of beakers for the ‘Other Things’ section of our shop. Please read on, take a look at her links and of course…why not treat yourself, or a loved one, to a very special limited edition (batch of 10) coffee accessory… MB

I am a part time ceramicist getting to the studio when I can in-between my day job as a experiential producer. I studied design at The Glasgow school of Art but only started working with clay in 2015 when I took some evening classes at Turning Earth in East London. After this my friend Claire and I set up Pot Party, a pottery collective that we sell our wares under.

Until recently I have been a wheel based potter, but having been furloughed during the Covid-19 pandemic I set up a space at home focussing on handbuilding. Being restricted in what I could do with the tools available, really sparked a wave of creativity in my practice, and has shaped how I will work in the future.

These beakers were inspired by a visit to Strangles Beach in North Cornwall this summer. It was the first time we had left London in 7 months. That walk by the sea with fresh air and sunshine is one I won’t forget.
